Caitrin and Matt | Engaged

What a dream it was to photograph these two! When I got off the initial discovery call with Caitrin I was so excited to meet her. Even on the phone her personality shined through and we totally clicked with each other. I think we ended up talking for a good half hour! That’s when you know you’re meant for each other!

Let me just start off by saying that when Caitrin and Matt got out of the car and I saw the beautiful teal dress she had on, I immediately looked at her and I was just like… “You read the bridal guide didn’t you.”Her response was, “Oh my gosh I’ve read it front to cover 10 times.”

This made me so freaking happy because they clearly took all my tips and tricks into consideration and totally nailed their outfits!

After we chatted a little bit and it was time to start the session, I chose a spot that most people would have never picked. I saw a tiny patch of grass off to the side of a parking lot and suggested that we start over there because the light was too good to pass up. I thought the two of them were going to think…We’re gonna go take our engagement portraits on the side of a parking lot?!

But they put their full trust in me, and never second-guessed anything! We did the entire first half of their session in that one location and we ended up with a ton of variety! I think I kept around 40-50 images just from this one tiny spot. This just goes to show that if you trust your photographer, the results will always be worth it!

Most people wouldn’t have ever thought that location was a great spot to take pictures, but this is because I’m always looking at the light first and location second. The light always always always comes first because that is what determines what will make or break your pictures. If there’s a really pretty location, but it’s in really bad light… I can’t shoot there. When I show up to a session I’m always thinking to myself… Where is the light? Where is it coming from, and how can I place my clients in that light to make sure that it’s flattering for both of them?

Also can I just say these two absolutely nailed all the poses literally right off the bat. I was so insanely shocked because it normally takes people a little bit of time to warm up to the camera, but it came so naturally to them that I ended up telling them if their day jobs don’t work out they can always just become professional models and they would be set for life!

Even though it ended up being a little chillier than expected and a tad bit windy, Caitrin and Matt were so much fun to hang out with, and I can’t even put into words how honored I am that I get to be the one capturing this special time in their lives.

From the gorgeous locations, to the perfectly planned outfits, everything about this session was absolute perfection. I am so incredibly excited for the wedding day to see these two again! Caitrin and Matt thank you so much for allowing me to capture these images for you!

Enjoy this highlight reel of some of my favorites from your engagement session!
