Wedding Planning 101

Details on your wedding day

Post Date:

The entire wedding day begins with details! This is what I always start with at each and every wedding. I photograph them in a way that matches and showcases the overall style and theme of your wedding day. It’s a great way to show off your personality and style! I give myself about an hour to photograph the brides details while my second normally does the grooms’. Details are what makes your wedding stand out and shows how much effort you put into planning everything!

Normally I ask my brides to gather their details all together in one place. That way when I show up, I can grab everything and start shooting! No time wasted here haha! Most brides put everything in a box days before the wedding and then if you think of something you can throw it in there.

One of the biggest and most important things I photograph during details is your rings! I always ask my brides to keep their engagement ring, their wedding band, AND the grooms wedding band together. This is SUPER important!!!!! This way they’re all together and we don’t have to track anyone down because one person has the grooms ring and someone else has the bride’s ring!

Put all of your invitations in your detail box! Everything that is included normally is called an invitation suite. So if you hear me saying that… that’s what it means! The RSVP card, the initial invitation, envelopes, and anything else you include in your invitation needs to be photographed! So many brides choose invitations that compliment the style and colors of their wedding and it makes everything flow together seamlessly.

Another ALL TIME FAVORITE thing of mine to photograph is florals! Your bridal bouquet is included with not only details, but in almost all your portraits too! I take your bouquet and photograph it with the details to add more variety into my shots. Normally I’ll shoot the rings on the bouquet and other things like that! Also, If your florist has any extra stems or loose pieces… have them bring them to me! This is a great way for me to add florals into other detail shots to add more variety to your images!

Don’t be afraid to get creative! I’ve had so many people buy things JUST for their detail shots. Now I’m not saying go out and buy things for your detail shots by any means… but for example many brides will have cute heels they want me to photograph but they really wear flats. Or if you really want the traditional something borrowed, something blue, etc. We can include those things as well. I’ve also had couples with sentimental pieces they wanted photographed like their grandmothers ring. Anything along those lines gives your wedding a really great story and they are so special to have photographs of!

Not sure where to begin? Here’s a list of common detail items to include!
