I can confidently say this was the coldest engagement session I have ever photographed.
The kind of cold where your fingers go numb in minutes. The kind where you question your life choices for approximately 30 seconds… and then remember why you love what you do.
Because then you look at Erica and Justin — and they’re smiling, laughing, completely unbothered by the freezing temperatures — and somehow looking like it’s a crisp fall day instead of well below that.
From the second we started, they embraced it all.
The wind.
The icy air.
And then… the snow squall.
Out of nowhere, the sky shifted and the dreamiest burst of snow came sweeping through. It felt cinematic. Soft flakes swirling around them, catching in Erica’s hair, landing on Justin’s coat. The kind of moment you can’t plan for — you just get lucky enough to witness.
And they didn’t flinch.
They leaned in closer.
They laughed harder.
They trusted me completely.
Those are always the sessions that turn into magic.
I’ve been experimenting lately with more nostalgic, film-inspired edits — leaning into grain, softer tones, that slightly imperfect, memory-like feel. The kind of images that feel like they were pulled straight from a shoebox in your parents’ attic. Honest. Emotional. Timeless.
This session felt made for that style.
The cold air, the movement in the snow, the way they held onto each other for warmth — it all translated so beautifully through that film-like approach. I’m honestly obsessed with how these came out. It’s such a gift to have couples who trust me enough to try something a little different creatively.
And if this is how they show up in freezing temps during a snow squall… I cannot even imagine what their wedding day is going to look like.
We’re about five months out, and I already know it’s going to be something special.
Erica and Justin — thank you for braving the cold, trusting my vision, and proving that the best photos don’t come from perfect conditions… they come from connection.
Summer wedding, I am so ready for you.
